New feature at Haricot Vert Expeditions News
gives immediate link to U.S. National Hurricane Center

If you take a look at the weather display for the different Haricot Vert Expeditions locations, you will see a new addition - the NOAA seal (left).
NOAA sealThroughout hurricane season this year, if you click on the seal you will be taken immediately to the home page of NOAA's National Hurricane Center.
The website gives the latest updates. It also includes many types of tracking maps to keep tabs on tropical threats for the Pacific and Atlantic oceans systems.
This promises to be another volatile hurricane season. The better informed and prepared you are, the safer you will be.

Death in family delays Hauyna Potosi attempt

Our friend Kirk Scheel is mourning the death of his father and has our sympathies and condolences.

Kirk left a message in the guestbook, which we quote in full here:

Well, I wish this was coming from some cyber cafe in La Paz, but it's not. Huayna Potosi will have to wait. I was shocked to my core with the sudden death of my father Saturday morning as I was checking my final packing list. He was the greatest man I have ever been aquainted with. A hero and mentor. The mtn will have to wait, now I will help my mom cope with this new twist. Thanks all for the support in going to Bolivia. It will happen!
Monday, 12th June 2006 - 06:33:13 PM

Kirk was going to Bolivia to attempt Hauyna Potosi as part of the staff of Outpost Wilderness Adventure (OWA). The organization takes youngsters, mostly teenagers, on outdoor excursions, such as mountain bike rides, rock climbing, fly fishing, and alpine adventures.

HV BikersPostpone Hill Country Excursion

HV INTL. HQ - Jim Glasscock reports he will be guiding Shanna Covey, Suzie Greene (two of the Haricot Vert Water Stop Girls - see the 2006 video at www.bigbend50.com) on a weekend Hill Country cycling lark the soon, but not in June, as originally planned.

The plan calls for two rides, with an overnight encampment at Enchanted Rock. The first ride will run from Luchenbach to Enchanted Rock for 40 mi./64 km. Next day. they'll pedal Enchanted Rock to Fredericksburg for 20 mi./32 km.

"I will be camp boss and cook," says Jim. "They will lose a lot of weight with my cooking."

Jim says he has tried to interest the girls in his personally-prepared gourmet fare. However, they are insisting on hot dogs, hamburgers and other simple grub. No Eggs Benedict for breakfast? How sad.

New photo contest!

This time, we're not going to show you a picture. You'll send one to us. We're looking for pictures of you on your own expedition. I am stealing the idea from Ivette Gray, but don't tell her. She wrote:

You should have people take pictures of themselves wearing Haricot Vert gear. It would be interesting to see the places people go for adventures. Best picture would get a prize or something.

How does that sound? We're working out the details (maybe a vote online). Anyway, start thinking and digging out your cameras, gear and expedition ideas.

This just in! HV runners will challenge record
at Big Bend Ranch State Park this October.

Jim Glasscock, P. Carroll Voss, Misael Gomez & George Karutz this October will attempt to break the record for RancheriasTrail at Big Bend Ranch State Park .
The current record for the 19 mi./30 km course is nine (9) hours. They'll be down there 7-9 October.
